PUNE: Very few nomination forms were rejected during the extended scrutiny period which ended on Friday. This was owing to the fact that the Supreme Court has directed that the nomination forms should be accepted without scrutinising the caste verification certificates at present. Had the caste verification certificates been scrutinised, there could have been a larger number of rejections.

PIMPRI: Three family members of Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Babar are contesting the forthcoming elections to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The Shiv Sena has nominated the MP's sisters-in-law - Sharada Prakash Babar, Madhuri Madhukar Babar and nephew Yogesh Madhukar Babar. The Lok Sabha member's brother, Prakash, is the Shiv Sena's group leader in the outgoing house of the PCMC.

PIMPRI: The nomination form of former corporator Uttam Hirawe was rejected by the returning officer on the ground that the State Election Commission had disqualified him to contest polls for five years. Hirawe, who was NCP's co-opted member, was disqualified by the EC as he had assaulted an employee of the PCMC. The Commission had acted on the recommendations of Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma.
