NEW DELHI: Food inflation remained in the negative zone for the fourth week in a row, at (-)1.03 per cent for the week ended January 14, on account of cheaper vegetables.   Food inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), was at (-)0.42 per cent in the previous week. It was above 17 per cent in the corresponding week of 2011.

MUMBAI: In a novel way to tide over acute shortage of coins, some traders in south Mumbai have minted their own small change in denominations of Re 1 and Rs 2 and circulated among themselves.   The Mandvi-Kolivad Association, a grouping of traders, have minted the coin with MKA logo on one side and denomination value on the other.

MUMBAI: In a decision that might have an impact on realty prices, the Bombay High Court has upheld the decision of the Union government to levy service tax on construction of flats and shops.   A division bench held by Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Amjad Sayed on Friday upheld the decision of the Centre to levy service tax, saying it was legal and constitutional.
