3 Good Things
3 Bad Things
Things where more efforts were expected or should be made in the future:
- Steps taken or decision made regarding Pakistan should be consistent so that a correct message is given to Pakistan.
- Depanding upon the response that China gives on our political and economic proposals a policy towards China must be finalised
- India must also improve its relations with developing countries. There has been limited dialogue with countries in the gulf, Africa, central asia and South America. Relation with Indonesia must be strengthen.
Former Secretary in the Ministry of External Affai
In the past one year one of the sectors in which the new government has concentrated its efforts is the foreign policy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been visiting various countries and many leaders from other countries have also visited India. This has encouraged bilateral talks, discussions on defence and economic relations, trade, investments and agreements with countries for improving our basic infrastructure. Due to these efforts India is today seen as a country which is rapidly moving forward. US President Barack Obama's visit to Inida as chief guest for the Republic Day highlighted the out of the box thinking of the government. This visit would benefit India in its defence, economic and many other sectors. The relations with Pakistan though have remained as they were. Even after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Delhi visit the response form Pakistan was opposite to what was expected. Terrorist attacks in Kashmir also increased. The Prime Minister is trying to improve relations with China. But the Chinese media reports after his recent visit to China indicate that the visit was not very beneficial to India.
