Prime minister Manmohan Singh lost the Lok Sabha election from South Delhi in 1999 but he immediately returned Rs 2 lakh he had taken from writer Khushwant Singh for hiring taxis, saying he had not used it.   This act of the prime minister's integrity finds a mention in a new book "Absolute Khushwant: The low-down on life, death and most things in-between" written by the 95-year-old author Khushwant Singh.

MUMBAI : Well-known Marathi poet Narayan Surve, who passed away today, was a social activist who put the voice of Mumbai's working class in Marathi literature.   "Aisa Ga Mee Brahma" (1962), is his first collection of poems followed by "Majhe Vidyapeeth", another collection that hit stands in 1966.

MUMBAI : Noted Marathi poet Narayan Surve, who depicted the struggle of Mumbai's working class through his works, passed away today at the age of 83 following brief illness.   Surve, known best for his poetry collections like 'Majhe Vidyapeeth' (My University), was ailing for some time and was in a private hospital in neighbouring Thane.
