Envisaging a paradigm shift in the prevalent education system in the country, educationist and chairman of Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited, Prof Ram Takwale on Thursday said the education offered to young minds should be innovation centric.   “It is the need of the hour that educational pattern should witness a sea change in the current age of globalisation. Our education system should be more application oriented and innovation centric, which would prepare students to meet global challenges,” he said.   Takwale was speaking at the inauguration of a three-day conference on ‘Media and Education’ hosted here by Art of Living foundation as a part of a series of conferences organised by International Association for Human Values with support from UNESCO.

The newest innovation in broadcasting at the World Cup has a super hero-sounding name and gives the armchair fan a bird’s-eye, 3-D view of the action. It can swing from a thread. Take a look overhead … It’s called the Spidercam. The tension cable-harnessed camera dubbed the “Spidercam” is making its World Cup debut, suspended 20 meters (66 feet) above the pitch and capable of being pulled back and forth to provide live, overhead images at four of the 10 tournament venues in South Africa.   “The perspective is unusual, because the other cameras are outside the field,” said Felix Werremeier, who pilots the 22-kilogram (48-pound) cable-mounted device, which uses 3D motion software. “The main thing we must convey is a (sense) of motion and the dynamic of the players.

In the first-of-its-kind initiative in the city, a special ‘CleanTech Entrepreneur Workshop’ was organised last weekend, where entrepreneurs from all across the country presented their innovative concepts in the field of clean technology.   Jointly organised by the ‘PuneCleanTech’ and New Ventures India (NVI) with support from MCCIA, FusionTech Ventures and Grubshup, the event saw over 14 entrepreneurs presenting their concepts before a select and serious audience of investors, mentors and service providers.     Pune-based Harshad Nanal and Anil Paranjape have been instrumental in the formation of ‘PuneCleanTech’ and the New Ventures India (NVI) is a joint initiative of CII-Godrej Green Business Centre (CIIGBC) and World Resources Institute (WRI) in Washington DC.
