MUMBAI: Governor K Sankaranarayanan in his capacity as the Chancellor of universities in the State, has appointed Search Committees for selection and appointment of Vice Chancellors of four universities in Maharashtra.   These universities are: Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik, Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani and Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Ahmednagar.   Dr Hari Gautam, renowned educationist, administrator and former Chairman of UGC will be the Chairman of the Search Committee appointed by the Governor for selection of Vice Chancellor of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences.   The Search Committee for Nagpur University will be headed by Justice A. P. Shah, Retired Chief Justice, High Court of Delhi.

Certificates to be on the Internet so employers can verify credentials   PUNE: With 729 reported cases of forged degree certificates, University of Pune (UoP) plans to put up all degree certificates online, so employers can verify claims of candidates from the current academic year.   In January, UoP came across 729 cases, second highest in all state universities,   of forged degree certificates. The cases came to light, when employers approached the varsity to check credentials of prospective employees.   To curb this menace, the varsity is making all degree certificates available on the   Internet. On Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor R K Shevgaonkar said, “The Examination Department has already scanned all degree certificates till 2007. We plan to put all scanned certificates on the website. PUNE: K Sankaranarayanan, the Governor of Maharashtra as well as the Chancellor of the university will visit the University of Pune(UoP) on Tuesday.   The visit is scheduled to get first hand information on academic and technical programmes run in various departments. He will visit the examination section to see progress in computerisation of the section. The Chancellor plans to visit the Physics and Botany departments to get information on various academic programmes.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, in his capacity as the Chancellor of the universities in the State, today appointed Dr Rajan M Welukar, former Vice Chancellor of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai.   The appointment shall come into effect from the date Dr Welukar assumes the charge of the office of the Vice Chancellor and shall be for a term of five years, an official release said.   The Chancellor had a personal interaction with all the five candidates short-listed by the Search Committee headed by Dr Ashok Kolaskar today.
