PUNE: For the first time in this season, the Khadakwasla dam has been filled hundred per cent on Friday, as the catchments are receiving good rains since last week. The Pawana and Kasarsai dams also filled more than fifty per cent.
According to the figures provided by the irrigation department, Pawana and Kasarsai dams were filled 57.51 per cent and 67.80 per cent respectively, by Friday evening. The heavy rains forced the irrigation department to release 2,544 cusecs from Khadakwasla dam into the river while 1,703 cusecs of water is being discharged in dam's irrigation canals.
On Friday, the reservoir water level increased up to 10.92 TMC from 6.67 TMC on last Monday (July 26), owing to good rainfall. The water level in Khadakwasla grid of four dams increased up to 37.58 percent.
With the exception of Khadakwasla dam, which saw only 34 mm of rainfall till 6 pm, the rainfall at the other dams supplying water to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad were around the 100 mm mark.
Meanwhile, the water percentage also increased in Mulshi 37 (22), Temghar 26 (25), Warasgaon 29.87 (37) and Panshet 39.22 (35). (in bracket rainfall till 5 pm on Friday)
