BENGALURU: The inquiry into the sex video case involving Nithyananda Swami got underway with Karnataka police registering a case at the Bidadi police station, under whose jurisdiction the Swami's ashram falls.
Police said the case was registered on Thursday and efforts would be made to secure the Swami, who has gone into hiding after the sex scandal broke out early this month.
The probe had got delayed as police found it difficult to translate all the papers given by Tamil Nadu police into Kannada.
Tamil Nadu police handed over the case to Karnataka as the scene of the offence was at the Bidadi ashram near Bengaluru.
Additional Director General of Police A.R.Infant said the case was registered after all the documents submitted by Tamil Nadu were translated from Tamil to Kannada.
Home Miinister V.S.Acharya indicated that the case may be transfered to the Corps of Detectives as it was a high profile case.
Police may arrest the Swami who has been accused of obscenity and cheating.
The charges include unnatural sex,, deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy.
The charges were filed by Karuppa Lenin , a former aide of Nithyananda. He has told the police that it was he who filmed the Swami in bed with Tamil actress Ranjitha.
The video was telecast in several television channels, rocking Nithyananda's global peace mission.
Nithyananda has denied the allegations, saying there was a conspiracy to defame him and his mission.
