MUMBAI: Suburban train services in India's financial capital Mumbai and neighbouring Thane and Raigad districts would come to a halt on January 26, the Republic Day, when motormen of Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) would undertake a day-long strike to press for a series of demands including better pays.
The unions of motormen of CR and WR have put up banners at different suburban railway stations across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
This is after a decade when motormen of CR and WR are going on a strike together.
Devendra Jadhav of Joint Action Forum said that time and again they have put their grievances to the Railway Board officials, however, no action has been taken yet.
“We are left with no other option,” he said.
On the other hand, the railway administration is in touch with the unions and are trying to resolve the issue.
DEMANDS
They are demanding night allowance, national holiday allowance and also want the present norms of calculating of kilometres for running allowance
