IIT-B alumni assn’s annual event

PUNE: The IIT Bombay Alumni Association (IITBAA), Pune Chapter will organise ‘Innovations 2010,’ its annual event that provides platform to innovators for showcasing their innovations, on January 9. The event will take place at the Dewang Mehta Auditorium at Persistent Systems Campus on Senapati Bapat Road between 9 am and 6:30 pm. This is the fourth successive year of this annual event.

 

Milind Joshi, President, IITBAA-Pune Chapter, Atul Narkhede, Secretary and Suneet Chitale, Member of the Executive Committee of the IITBAA-Pune Chapter were also present on the occasion.

 

“Innovations 2010 will present innovative products or processes developed by the technocrats and will strive to bring before scientists, researchers, investors and the society at large, creative and innovative work of Indian Innovators in the sphere of science and technology that has a high degree of practical relevance to change everyday life,” President, IITBAA-Pune Chapter, Milind Joshi told reporters.

 

According to Secretary, IITBAA-Pune Chapter Atul Narkhede, this year, 12 innovators representing varied fields like mechanical engineering, chemical and processes, IT products and services along with some novel general purpose ideas will be showcased.

 

“Ideas to be presented this year have some very interesting applications ranging from power generation using ocean wave energy to a CAD tool that helps in identifying production related issues in injection moulding and from a foolproof real time authentication system to a special mechanical tool to avoid excreta discharge at a station for better cleanliness for use in railway carriage toilet,” Narkhede said.

 

A devise making pole climbing simple and safe, a telecom product that helps monitoring well-being of senior citizens even though they are far off, a disaster card game designed to simulate disaster situations and facilitate discussions on the role of individuals and community in preparing for disaster, simple methodology for cloud-seeding are some of the interesting applications of innovations to be presented this year.’

 

Member of the Executive Committee of the IITB-AA, Suneet Chitale said that apart from the inauguration and presentations by the Innovators, the morning session will have a keynote address by Sanjay Nayak, CEO-MD of Tejas Networks, which is one of the first telecom product companies from India to have become a global player in optical networking.

 

“The ‘Innovations’ has continued to benefit participating innovators on various parameters like increasing visibility/awareness about the product, increase in sale, enhancing credibility and receiving funding. The Pune Chapter shall continue its conscious effort to help them take innovation to commercial success, especially by the way of facilitating ‘entrepreneurial mentoring’ for them,” Chitale said.

 
This year, three successful innovators will share their experience about how they scaled their innovative ideas to success.
