PUNE: As many as 13 children and an elderly woman were hospitalised due to food-poisoning after they consumed cake sold on a handcart at Jejuri in Pune district on Wednesday.
Three of the children, Hitesh More, Neelima Bhise and Sayali Mandhare, were later shifted to the Sassoon Hospital here, along with the woman, Sonabai Dodke for treatment. The rest are being treated at the rural hospital in Jejuri and their condition is improving, said hospital medical superintendent Dr Bhagyarekha Patil.
The children suffered from dehydration and vomiting after they went to the school in the morning. They were taken to the rural hospital at 1 pm. The Jejuri police detained the owner of ‘Minhas’ bakery, Anwar Islam Pathan and the handcart seller, Suresh Zagde for investigation.
An irate mob later damaged the bakery and destroyed property, protesting against the incident.
