- Sakaal Times
Monday, 9 September 2013 - 11:51 PM IST

The Sakal Media Group’s ‘Tandurust Bandobast’ (healthy policing) initiative for the city’s police force was launched at the Kasba Ganpati mandal on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday.

The initiative which is a brainchild of Abhijit Pawar, Managing Director, Sakal Media Group aims at improving the eating habits of the state’s police force while on duty. The initiative was formally launched in Mumbai on Saturday in the presence of the State Home Minister, RR Patil and Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh (Sakal Times September 9).

The Kasba Ganpati mandal function on Monday was held in the presence of the Pune Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol, newly elected city mayor Chanchala Kodre, Pratap Pawar, Chairman, Sakal Media Group, Abhijit Pawar, Managing Director, Sakal Media Group, Chandrashekhar Daithankar, Additional Commissioner of police and Bharat Rathod, President, Kasba Ganesh Mandal among others.

The speakers appreciated the Sakal Media Group’s recent social initiatives like the Pune Bus Day, Tanishka Women’s Forum, Freedom from Drought and the latest, Tandurust Bandobast. The mayor and police commissioner pointed out that the Sakal Media Group was bringing about positive change in the society through these solution based initiatives.

The Mayor distributed ‘chikki’ (groundnut based sweet) packets to police personnel from the Faraskhana and Vishrambagh police stations on the occasion. The chikki was distributed as a token of nutritious food and to signal the start of the Tandurust Bandobast intiative across the State.
Chikki was also distributed to police personnel at 12 other mandals in the city on Monday.

The chikki distribution programme will be conducted on the first two days and last two days of the Ganesh Festival in the city.

Sushilkumar Shinde, Union Home Minister

The Sakal Media Group’s initiative to address the health of police personnel needs to be complimented. Police personnel work long hours under immense stress and do not have the time to take care of their health and food habits. The Sakal Media Group’s Tandurust Bandobast initiative will help improve the lifestyle of the police force.

Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister, Maharashtra

The Sakal Media Group has launched the Tandurust Bandobast initiative for police personnel to ensure a safe Ganesh festival. The group has also appealed to Ganesh mandals to cooperate with the police. It is necessary to ensure that the police force gets a nutritious diet, because they work under a lot of stress. I congratulate the Sakal Media Group for this initiative.

Gulabrao Pol, Pune Police Commissioner

The Sakal Media Group needs to be commended for addressing the health issues of police personnel. Police are neglected in society and are facing a lot of problems. This initiative will definitely help improve the health of the police force.

Chanchala Kodre, Pune city mayor

Police form the backbone of the Ganesh festival. It is good that the Sakal Media Group is taking care of the police personnel. I appeal to citizens and organisations to help the police during the festival to ensure a happy and safe Ganesh festival.

Pratap Pawar, Chairman, Sakal Media Group

The Sakal Media Group has taken initiatives like the Pune Bus Day, Taniska Women’s Forum, Freedom from Drought and all of them have evoked a good response from the society. If the society helps the police force, it will create a safer, more secure society.

Bharat Rathod, President Kasba Ganesh Mandal

Citizens can remain safe only if the police are fit. The Tandurust Bandobast is a very good initiative. The Kasba Ganesh Mandal is ready to help the Sakal Media Group in such initiatives.

Dr Balaji Tambe, Ayurvedacharya

We found that the police stay away from home for long hours during bandobast duty and do not get time to eat. Chikki is a healthy food. This is why the Sakal Media Group has launched their Tandurust Bandobast initiative by distributing chikki to policemen.

Abhijit Pawar, MD, Sakal Media Group

Good health of the police force is important for the society. This is why we have launched our Tandurust Bandobast initiative. Chikki is being distributed to the police force as a token of nutritious diet to mark the beginning of this initiative.

Ashok Godse, President, Dagdusheth Ganpati Temple Trust

The police force helps Ganesh Mandals a lot. During festivals, they do not get time to visit their homes and participate in the celebrations. The Sakal Media Group’s initiative to take care of the police force’s health is a very good idea.

Tandurust Bandobast at Dagdusheth

Pune:  The Tandurust Bandobast initiative was also launched at Dagdusheth Ganpati temple on Monday morning at the hands of Ayurvedacharya Dr Balaji Tambe.

Abhijit Pawar, Managing Director, Sakal Media Group, Makarand Ranade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 1) and Ashok Godse, president, Dagdusheth Ganesh Mandal were also present on the occasion.

Dr Balaji Tambe also performed the traditional puja on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi at the temple. Chikki was distributed to police personnel by Dr Tambe and Godse after the puja function.
