Committed to the safety journey of children

Ahmednagar: Dignitaries from across the country took an oath to work for the safety of children at a workshop organised by the NGO Snehalaya in Ahmednagar on May 1 to celebrate the first anniversary of the popular TV show, Satyamev Jayate.

Film actor Aamir Khan administered the oath to the gathering which included  anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, managing director, Sakal Media Group, Abhijit Pawar, director of NGO Prerana, Praveen Patkar, Satyamev Jayate team of  Swati and Satyajit Bhatkal, Lancy Fernandes, Snehalaya founder Girish Kulkarni, Sanjay Gugale, president, Rajiv Gujar, secretary, Suvalal Shingvi, advisor and representatives from of 165 social organisations.

The first episode of Satyamev Jayate was broadcast on May 6 last year. At the end of the show, Aamir had spoken about Snehalaya which works with HIV+ children and children of commercial sex workers and had appealed for generous donations for Snehalaya.

Following this, the social organisation received massive funds from across the world and with the help of this amount, Snehalaya built Satyamev Jayate Bhavan at its campus and Aamir inaugurated the building on January 26, 2013.

In order to express its gratitude towards Satyamev Jayate, Snehalaya decided to celebrate the first anniversary of Satyamev Jayate on the occasion of Maharashtra Day on Wednesday.

Representatives of 165 social organisations from 16 states and social activists working for rehabilitation of commercial sex workers in three states and other social workers were present. Several books which included 'Sanvedana Snehalayachya' and 'Defined Destinies' were released on the occasion.

Aamir expresses interest in Sakal Media Group's 'Delivering Maharashtra' campaign

Aamir Khan and his colleagues were eager to know more about the Sakal Media Group's 'Water: Delivering Maharashtra'   campaign launched recently by Sakal Agrowon, India's only agro-daily to achieve freedom from drought in Maharashtra in the next five years. Aamir expressed his desire to work with the Sakal Media group on the issue of water scarcity. Both, Aamir Khan and Abhijit Pawar, managing director, Sakal Media Group are set to meet soon on this issue.
