Television actor Pawan Shankar became a popular name with his first fiction show Siddhant, but later he almost disappeared from the realm of television to pursue a career in films. Now, he’s back on the small screen with Ekta Kapoor’s latest serial Kya Hua Tera Vaada.
Shankar will be seen with Mona Singh (of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi fame) |and the two are playing a married couple that is facing a midlife crisis, and are unable to spend time with each other.
“Anyone can connect with the characters and plot of the serial. I am playing this middle-aged guy who is yet to achieve much in life, and because of family pressure or bad luck, he is unable to get what he deserves. He is an innocent guy who is bogged down by EMIs and workload. Because of this, he is also unable to give time to his family,” says Shankar.
Shankar believes the story is very close to real life. “As responsibilities increase, partners cannot give each other the time they deserve. We take each other for granted and romance takes a back-seat,” he says.
Post Siddhant, Shankar worked on Vicky Ki Taxi and also numerous films, including Mr Bhatti on Chutti. He had decided to bid farewell to television, but Shankar says he couldn’t say no to Ekta Kapoor. “A couple of my films are ready, but yet to be released,” he says.
Ask him why television actors fail to strike gold on the silver screen and Shankar points out, “That’s not true because we have actors like Prachi Desai and Rajeev Khandelwal who have made it big. It’s all destiny and if you are destined to make it big, nothing can stop you.”
“As of now, I want to concentrate only on television because I have realised its power. Television content is changing and it’s moving towards reality — which is good.”
There’s a perception that Ekta Kapoor’s shows start on a fresh note, but lose focus mid-way going back to the regular saas-bahu and family drama. However, Shankar insists that with this serial, which is in the reality zone, she cannot do much.
“Even Ekta Kapoor has realised that the audience today prefers reality content, which is ruling television. That is why she is concentrating on making her shows as real as possible,” he adds.
