Significant rise in water level

PUNE: With the Rain God smiling again for the past couple of days, the water level in dams rose significantly. The Khadakwasla grid, catering to the needs of the city and the neighbourhood, has filled to 89.25 per cent capacity by Thursday evening.

 

The city on Thursday had recorded 10.9 mm rainfall till 8.30 am and throughout the day received 4.7 mm rainfall.

 

The total capacity of Khadakwasla grid, comprising four dams, is 29 TMC with Temghar (3.60 TMC), Warasgaon (12.82 TMC), Panshet (10.65 TMC) and Khadakwasla (1.97 TMC). As on Thursday at 5 pm, the water storage in the grid was 26.02 TMC.

 

Pawana and Kasarsai, two dams from Mula-Mutha sub-basin, have already been filled to their full capacity while the reservoirs of Mulshi, Panshet and Khadakwasla dams are on the way to full capacity.

 

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) farmer’s weather bulletin for Maharashtra and Goa (excluding Vidarbha) has forecast moderate to rather heavy rainfall at most places over all the districts of Konkan-Goa and at many places over all the districts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. The weatherman has warned of heavy rainfall at a few places with very heavy falls at isolated places in the districts of Thane and Raigad during next 48 hours.

 

According to IMD, heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places in the districts of Goa, Greater Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and in all the districts of north Maharashtra during the same period. Moderate to rather heavy rainfall are expected at most places over all the districts of Konkan and Goa and at many places over all the districts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
