PUNE: Even after 72 hours, the city police do not seem to have made any headway in apprehending the person who murdered city IT-worker Darshana Tongare at Bavdhan on Friday night.
“There is no progress in the case yet. But we are working very hard on it and analysing all possible dimensions involved,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III), Dnyaneshwar Chavan said.
The police had earlier stated that they suspect the murder to be the result of an one-sided love affair as the victim’s cell phone, purse and other valuables were untouched.
While yesterday, police sources had hinted of a breakthrough in the case, official sources today conceded that they were examining various aspects.
But indications are that the police have narrowed in on a prime suspect who is eluding arrest. While police teams have been despatched to other towns, the police are not discounting the possibility of the suspect being present in the city itself.
