MUMBAI: The legal fight over production rights of the hit Marathi play 'Sahi Re Sahi' is not yet over, as original producer Lata Narvekar today moved the Bombay High Court.
Justice R C Chavan has scheduled the hearing for August 3. The High Court also allowed Suyog Sanstha, the new producer, to stage two shows of the Kedar Shinde-written comedy in Pune on August 1, and another show in Mumbai on the morning of August 3.
But Suyog will have to maintain accounts of ticket sale of the three shows, the judge said. Narvekar's production house 'Sri Chintamani' produced the play in 2002, and staged it till 2009. After that, Shinde, the writer-director, and the lead actor Bharat Jadhav decided to take the play to Suyog, a rival production house. Narvekar claims that she has the copyright over the play. But sessions court rejected her application yesterday, saying that under the copyright act, rights revert to the writer after five years.
