PUNE: The issue of security inside the court premises has once again cropped up with Police Commissioner Dr Satya Pal Singh assuring to beef up security from Friday, after the Bombay High Court administration and Pune’s District Judge Madan Joshi raised this issue with him.
Allegations against police were made after Nayar was murdered in court premises on Thursday afternoon.
Advocate Karande alleged that police staff of Dehu Road and other police stations did not act speedily after the attack incident.
A policeman from Dehu Road police station was in the building, but he refused to call the Shivajinagar police saying that he had some documents in his hands, when assailants came and attacked me, Karande alleged.
Furious lawyers in the court premises alleged that an assistant police inspector from Faraskhana police station was only few feets away from the spot where Nayar was stabbed, but he was busy having tea and not bothered to interfere.
DCP Dnyaneshwar Phadtare said, “A staff comprising an inspector, assistant inspector, three sub-inspectors and four other constables were deployed on Thursday inside the court premises. There were two policemen at gate number 3, at a distance of just 100 feet from the murder spot.”
“Friday onwards, security will be enhanced with additional police force being deployed inside court premises,” Phadtare stated.
The bar association has demanded total security review, including barring of vehicles except those of judges, advocates and other staff in the court premises.
President of the Bar association Milind Pawar said that police force needs to be increased adequately.
BLAME GAME
DCP Phadtare said that the Rural Police should have intimated the city police about Thursday’s sensitive trial in Dangat’s murder case. “If they had informed us, additional police force could have been deployed just as in the case of hearings related to gang wars,” he said.
