PUNE: Even after passing of a year of the Unorganised Workers' Social Security Act, the registration of the unorganised workers is yet to begin.
As the district collector is responsible for registration, members of city-based NGO Kagad, Kach, Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP) held a protest at the collector office on Monday and submitted a memorandum to the district collector.
“As per the provision of the act, the district collector is responsible to register the members from the unorganised workers' sector. Till date, no registration has taken place in any state district.
Unless and until registration is done, the members would not be eligible for benefits of various schemes under the act,” said Poornima Chikarmane of KKPKP.
After the protest, a delegation of representatives comprising Baba Adhav, Mohan Nanavare, Surekha Gade, Indubai Kamble and Kesharbai Sakat met the collector and discussed the matter.
“It was found that the collector office itself was unaware of the provision of the act. However, the collector assured that he would interact with the labour department in this regard,” said Poornima.
A copy of the act and rules was handed over the collector. Representing the unorganised sector, hundred forms, the format of which is available in the act only, were filled and submitted to the collector office along with necessary documents.
After registration, the workers from unorganised sector can claim for the schemes like Aam Admi Bima Yojana, Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana and pension.
