PIMPRI: The snapping of an overhead wire at Chinchwad Station disrupted rail traffic on the Pune-Mumbai route for over four hours on Wednesday.
Mumbai-bound Deccan Queen was halted at Pimpri station for an hour. Subsequent Sahyadri and Pragati Express trains too were delayed by an hour.
Local train service between Pune and Lonavla was suspended during this period. The Lonavla-Pune local, which had left Lonavla at 8.15 pm, was halted at Malawali station.
The disruption of Pune-Lonavla local train service caused hardships, especially to the Std XII students whose board examination had begun on Tuesday.
These students and other commuters had to resort to alternate means of transport to reach their destination. The normal railway traffic was restored at around 11.30 am.
