PUNE: Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain's upcoming show in the city will offer music connoisseurs what they had never heard or even seen from him before. The legendary performer has stated that his performance in the city on Friday will be a special attempt to make Tabla hear like a 'multiple-sounding instrument'.
“Performing with many Tablas gives a multi-sound effect. By doing so, I am going to try to produce unusual quality of sound-scales. My show on Sunday (at Mumbai) was a rehearsal of it and I will be repeating same here in my Pune show,” Hussain said at press meet here on Monday.
Maharashtra Education Society (MES) has organised a live performance of Ustad Zakir Hussain along with Sarangi player Sabir Khan as a part of 150thanniversary celebration at Abasaheb Garware College ground on 6.30 pm Friday.
“The attempt would be to produce delays, reversals and likewise many such acts with the Tablas. It will be like a soundscape and unusual from what I did so far,” Hussain said.
Reacting on his non-participation of late in the city's own Sawai Gandharva Music Festival, hailed as one of the most prominent Indian classical music festivals in the country, the maestro said he is preferring to give room for young performers.
He also advised budding artists to proclaim their love for art defiantly before actually pursuing it. Chairman of MES’ governing body Ravindra Wanjarwadkar and Shashi Vyas of cultural organisation 'Pancham nishad' were also present on the occasion.
