MUMBAI/THANE: Three students – a medical student, a young girl who participated in TV shows and one who studied at the famous Shradhashram Vidyamandir at Dadar - ended their lives in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane district since Saturday.

The series of suicides have shocked the parents, policemen and social activists. Detailed investigations in all the cases were in progress. All the victims hanged themselves. Interestingly no suicide note has been found from any of the three students.

In the first instance, Sushant Patil, a Class VII student at Shradhashram Vidyamandir allegedly committed suicide inside the school premises. Initial reports said that he was not very good in studies. He had failed in four subjects in semester examination and this may have prompted him to take this extreme step, police have said. He was found hanging in the toilet of the school on Monday.

In the second case, a medical student Bhajanpreet Bhuler (22), a physiotherapy course student of D Y Patil Medical college in Navi Mumbai, was found hanging with a nylon rope to ceiling rod at her Sai co-operative housing society at Powai on Saturday. Bhuler is also learned to have failed in few subjects in her examination, similar to the first case, which could have prompted her to commit suicide.

In the third case, on Saturday, a standard VI student Neha Sawant, who stayed in Dombivli committed suicide by hanging using her dupatta. She has participated in group dances in TV reality shows including Boogie Woogie. Neha was a resident of Dombivli. She was also a student of a dance academy, where she excelled in various dance forms, they said. Police suspect the girl might have taken the step after her family took her out of the academy as they wanted her to concentrate on her studies.
