PUNE: City-based organisation Pedestrians First has reacted sharply to the fatal accident involving a PMPML Katraj-Nigdi bus and a pedestrian on Wednesday.
The bus was poorly maintained and one reason why it met with the accident was that its brakes failed, a letter written by Prashant Inamdar, convener of the Pedestrians First, to the PMPML chairman stated.
The forum has expressed serious concern over the non-maintenance of buses. “We have time and again brought to the notice of the PMPML how a large number of buses plying in Pune are non-road worthy,” Inamdar wrote. This could be specially so about the buses that the PMPML deploys on contract from private operators. There is no way to check their preparedness, the letter stated.
