PUNE: Youth to Youth, a city-based NGO will adopt 100 students from Std V to X as part of its “educational adoption of poor students” programme.
Youth to Youth president Ameya Jagtap said, “There are many children from economically backward families who can ill afford schooling or even if they do, they don’t get quality education. We will adopt 100 such children and provide for their education for one year.”
The children will be provided with essentials like books, bags and uniforms and will also have special classes in creative arts like music, dance and drawing. They will also have separate classes for personality development, said Jagtap.
“Personality development is an oft-neglected area and we will focus on that as children are quick to pick up things at this age,” he added.
Follow-up would also be an integral part of the programme, Jagtap said, adding, “We will keep in touch with teachers in the school and keep track of the progress of children after we are done with the programme.”
The organisation is in the process of selecting various schools and children based on some tests or informal interviews. “We will not have a formal interview or test for selecting these children and it would not be something difficult. For example, children might recite a poem that they know.”
