PUNE: Expressing deep concern over the meagre facility for toilets in PMC schools, especially for girls, the general body on Monday cleared the Rs 170 crore budget for 2010-11 for the school board, presented before it by the standing committee.
Raising the issue, former mayor Kamal Vyawhare said unavailability of toilet facility for girls was a big reason why girls drop out from schools. Unless school board takes up this issue in all earnest, strength of girls in PMC schools would continue to dwindle, she said.
Jyotsana Sardeshpande of the BJP said it was sad that the school board continued to neglect this aspect in spite of repeated reminders from the general body.
