MUMBAI: A senior citizen has filed a private complaint before a metropolitan magistrate against her son for forging and mortgaging her flat without her knowledge. 61-year-old Habiba Khan, who has been staying in the house in Andheri for the past 46 years, lodged a complaint against her son Ashraf (38) and brother-in-law Mohammed Khan for forging her signature in order to transfer ownership of the house in his name and mortgaging the flat.

“After my husband died in 1999 my son started fighting with me and wanted to evict me. He told me since his father is dead, he is the rightful owner of the house,” Khan said. In 2001, she approached a metropolitan magistrate alleging that Ashraf was forcing her to leave the house. Khan also filed a civil case in the sessions court stating that she was the owner of the house.  However in 2002, Khan said, Ashraf registered the house in his name with the help of Mohammed by forging her signature on the documents and mortgaged the flat.
