Redline

Director: Andy Cheng

Starring: Nadia Bjorlin, Nathan Phillips, Angus Macfadyen, Eddie Griffin and others

Rating: *

There must be an audience for this kind of movie — teenaged boys who form a fan base for The Fast and The Furious, and who have been fed on a diet of aspiration that has sexy women and fast cars on top of the list.

Helmed by Rush Hour stunt director Andy Cheng and funded by car-crazy real estate moneybags, Daniel Sadek, who shows off his own fleet of sleek cars, and non-existent creative skills, this film has rightly been dubbed a vanity production.

For a pretence of plot, there is aspiring singer Natasha (Nadia Bjorlin), who has inherited the driving skills of her father, killed in a car crash. She has promised her mother that she won’t take part in races, but she also has to take revenge against the rich nutcase Michael (Angus Macfadyen), who bet outrageous sums of money bet on illegal high speed car races with a guy called Infamous (Eddie Griffin) and a Hollywood producer (Tim Matheson).

Among the drivers are Jason (Jesse Johnson), and of course Natasha (Nadia Bjorlin), who gets involved with Jason’s Iraq war veteran brother Carlo (Nathan Phillips).

It’s a crazy video game of a movie, with car races, fights, and a succession of women in bikinis. Forget about plot or character development, Redline is meant for audiences with zero attention span and low expectations. The cars are undoubtedly drool-worthy, can’t say the same about the rest of the film.
