PUNE: The breaking of three submarine cables on Friday failed to hit the business of IT and BPO companies, cyber cafes and other business establishments in the city. The internet café owners however reported slow internet connection that could affect their collection if it persists.

Almost all major and even smaller IT and BPO companies have more than one service provider.

“Companies have a full fledged back-up system and don’t rely on a single operator for availing services. There are more than one or two service operators that help us to deal with such situation and avoid any disaster,” said Chaitanya Nadkarny, head of delivery, ThoughtWorks Technologies.

However, cyber café owners complained of slowdown in connection and downloading activities. “Customers were complaining of disruption in internet connection, but it was manageable. But, we hope the system starts functioning properly or else we’ll have to lose our business during Christmas and New Year,” said Rahul Bidwekar, an internet café owner.
