FIGHT AGAINST TERROR: A girl takes part in a signing and message campaign organised by Youth to Youth organisation on F C Road on Sunday to pay tributes to the martyrs of Mumbai terror attacks

PUNE: In a unique initiative, four students organised a silent candle march in the city to show their solidarity and pay homage to the victims of Mumbai terror attacks.

Around 300 people joined hands in solidarity and took part in the procession, which started from Shaniwarwada and passed thorough Modern Café Chowk, Shimla office, police ground, FC road and culminated at Sambhaji Park.

Sneha Gore (21), one of the organisers and a student of mass communication said, “We got together day before yesterday and thought about what we could do. We thought we could contribute in some way and register our protest and decided upon this. Everybody is keen on doing something after the attacks and this march provides a platform. We decided to organise the march because we did not want to give the march any political connotation or colour and we are overwhelmed with the response.”

The students mainly networked by sending SMSes to friends and relatives and they in turn forwarded the messages. Majority of the participants in the rally were youth between the age groups of 20 and 30.

Chinmay Kulkarni, first year student of interior design, SIT said, “This is the first time I am taking part in such a rally but I am really surprised by the turnout here.”

Jaideep Marathe, a chartered accountancy student said, “Rallies are the effective means of voicing our feelings and I am happy to be a part of this.”
