Theatre Beyond Words, the fifth annual theatre festival, organised by actor-director Amol Palekar, will witness different forms of theatre plays by artists from the US, Israel along with Indian artists from Pondicherry, Mumbai and Chandigarh, as well as discussions on the course of Indian theatre.
The three-day event starting from December 5, as Palekar puts it, is conceptualised and organised by his wife, Sandhya Gokhale. As the name of the festival suggests, the focus this time is on modes of theatrical expressions.
While addressing the media, Palekar spoke about the objective behind the three-day endeavour beginning from December 5. “It’s primarily meant to re-explore the contours of theatre and determine what theatre really is. It’s important to tell people that theatre isn’t necessarily something that happens within the domain of four walls,” Palekar said.
Giving a brief overview about the festival, he informed, “It’s a privilege that Irsahd Panjatan, who is a legendary mime artist will be here to perform. He happens to be a disciple of Marcello Mastroine, who pioneered pantomime as a performing style in the 60s. Then there’ll be a dance-drama titled “A Song And A Dance” led by danseuse Aparna Sindhoor from Boston.
Cinematograph Productions from Mumbai, which boasts of names like Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Pathak, will present two acts in gibberish dialogues called “C For Clown” and a sequel to it called “Hamlet: The Crown Prince”.
Other acts include the reading of a one act play “Mad Delight” written by Mohan Rakesh. Further, every act will be followed by an interactive session with the audience.
The festival will be held at Y B Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud. The ticket, priced at a decent Rs 150 and Rs 300 for all three days, will be available at the auditorium from November 28.
